Frequently Asked Questions

How do you reduce Humidity?

We have several different methods, but all use panels containing 100% natural minerals known as desiccants. In walk-in coolers, we attach a series of specially designed panels to the ceiling. For homes, a different type of panel(s) is placed in the return airflow. These are simply stood up behind the air filter. For large buildings and such, our panels are either placed into the return air flow or installed in the plenum chamber section of the air handling unit. Whichever the method, or specific product, our panels begin working once they are placed into the conditioned environment.

How long will they work?

Commercial refrigeration panels need to be exchanged within 4-8 weeks. Air conditioning panels can typically last about 12-18 months. All of our panels are rechargeable/recyclable so their life is really immeasurable.

Is it safe?

Of course. The minerals we use have been used in various industries for many, many years. They are 100% natural and safe. If a truck load of the minerals where to have a spill, the minerals could be simply brushed away without any harm to the environment.

What are the waste products it creates?

None! Unlike using an electric dehumidifier, our panels do not generate any waste water. There are no other waste byproducts generated from using our panels.

Then, where does the water go?

Traditionally thinking (as with electric dehumidifiers), you’d expect to find a lot of “water” if it is removing moisture from the air. Right? These units actually generate water by causing condensation on its coil. Our panels do NOT cause any conversion from the gaseous state (humidity) to a liquid state (condensation). Humidity is absorbed or adsorbed (depending upon the mineral used) and “captured” into the pores of our minerals. These pore surface areas are so vast that they are able to hold on to the water vapor (gas) until it is heated during regeneration.

How much energy does it use?

None! Our panels do not run on electricity. They make no noise, have no moving parts, and do not breakdown.

How can the panels help save energy?

Two ways: First, in air conditioned environments, reducing humidity will make the air more comfortable and will feel a little cooler. (EPA recommend 30% - 60% indoor humidity levels.) This will allow your thermostat to be raised a few degrees, or at least keep it in a steady position. Utility companies say that you can save about 5% for every degree you can increase the thermostat. Secondly, by reducing moisture in any refrigerated or air conditioned environment, you are reducing “latent heat”. This latent load is additional heat your system must remove in order to cool. By reducing the latent heat load the system will run more efficiently and will use less energy. This is NOT theory, but is a proven fact.

If I buy your panels, can I install it myself?

Sure. It is not difficult. For homes, condos, apartments, offices, buildings, etc. simply open the return air vent and stand the panel(s) up in the area inside (behind the filter). For ceiling-type return air vents, you will need to open the vent and place a couple of 1”x3” boards across the chamber area and lay the panel across them. On rare occasions, the ductwork may be too close and a panel may not fit. Contact us for advice, or to have a custom panel made for you.

How big are the panels, and how many do I need?

Both size and weight varies according to the application. Contact us and tell us more about your situation so we can better help you. As a general rule, a unit up to 3 tons will require one ProTECTM Green Air Humidity Protection panel, which is about 10 pounds. For smaller units (up to about 2 tons), a ProTECTM Green Air Junior will work. This panel is about 7 pounds.

What maintenance do I have to do if I buy your panels?

If you use our service, we take care of everything for you. You don’t have to do a thing. If you own the panel all you need to do is remove it about once a year or so, dust it off, and dry it all day in the hot sun. DO NOT wash it. We want to take water OUT, not put more back in.

What about the home refrigerator panel? How is it better than the green bags I can get in the store?

These home refrigerator panels are simply Velcro taped to the top, inside of the refrigerator. They are better than the green bag method because it controls everything in the refrigerator, not just what is in the bag. Nothing has to be prepared before placing produce in the refrigerator like when using the bags. Additionally, our panels not only absorb ethylene gas (like the bags do) but they also reduce moisture, mold and bacterial growth, reduces odors, makes the refrigerator colder, and reduces energy. You can’t get that from “a bag”! Finally, our panels can last for years and years...not “8-10 uses” when using green bags.
